Stefano Squarzina, was born in Tresigallo (Ferrara) in 1966, he began the study of Oboe at the Conservatory "G.Frescobaldi" in Ferrara, where he got a diploma in 1987, with honours.
Moreover he made concerts in different Orchestras such as the Orchestra Giovanile of Emilia Romagna ( in the Teatro Consorziale of Budrio); the Orchestra Filarmonica del Tirreno; the Orchestra “Arturo Toscanini” in Parma; the Orchestra Camerata Fiesolana, and the Camerata Musicale in the Teatro “G. Verdi” in Pisa.
Meanwhile he played Oboe, from 1990 he also studied composition and he got a diploma in 1998 in the Consevatory “G. Frescobaldi” in Ferrara.
In 1993 he made an elaboration for orchestra for the l Teatro “G. Verdi” in Pisa. This elaboration of Toscany popular songs was made the 1st of January 1994 succesfully..
Others compositions and trasriptions were executed by different instrumental groups such as:
Orchestra Regionale Toscana; the Quintetto a Fiati Italiano; the Quintetto a Fiati Avant – Garde; the Formazione Cameristica Italiana; il Quintetto a Fiati Bibiena; il Nonetto a Fiati del Teatro Comunale di Bologna; i Solisti della Scala; il Parma Opera Ensemble; l’orchestra a plettro Gino Neri; la Bürgerkapelle di Lana; l’Orchestra Città di Ferrara; la Camerata Musicale di Pisa.
Meanwhile, he followed the Orchestra Conducting Course with Emilio Pomarico in the “Civica Scuola di Musica” in Milan. Then he got the diplome in conducting in Music Academy “G. B. Martini” in Bologna and he took part at the improving courses of with the following Teachers:
Ivan Kojouckarov, at the ”Accademia Filarmonica” in Bourgas (Bulgaria);
Julius Kalmar, at the Conservatorio in Vienna;
Piero Bellugi, at l’Associazione “Florence Sinfonietta”
Jo Conjaerts, at the “Civica Scuola di Musica” in Povoletto (Udine);
Isaac Karabtchesky at the courses in Riva del Garda 2006 e 2007;
Ian Pavlov at the Accademy in Vratza (Bulgaria) in 2008.
For the Conservatory “G. Frescobaldi” in Ferrara, he conducted the operas “The Little Sweep” by B. Britten, “L’amor ferrato” by Giordano Tunioli, “Il ritorno di Euridice” by Roberto Becheri.
Fot synphonic and chamber music he conducting the orchestra “Florence Symphonyetta” in Florence, the Orchestra Sinfonica in Sanremo, the instrumental group “Serenade Ensemble” in Trieste, the Orchestra Estense in Ferrara, the Formazione Cameristica Italiana, the Camerata Musicale in Pisa, the Orchestra City of Ferrara, the Orchestra of the Theatre Comunale of Bologna.
In 2001 he worked in the Stadt Theater in Berna (Svizzera), as Korrepetitor and Probendirigent, in the operas “Medea” by Rolf Liebermann and “Maria de Buenos Aires” by Astor Piazzola.
From January 2000 to January 2011, he conducted the "Orchestra a plettro GINO NERI" in Ferrara, with whom he made many concerts and CDs; he took part in 2000 at the Festival Internazionale di Logroño (Spagna) and in 2004 in Japan: Kyoto, Sendai, Kobe.
From 2002 to 2004 he was the Artistic Conductor of Formazione Cameristica Italiana with whom he recorded a CD of original music.
In 2007 he conducted thanks invite from EGMA (European Guitar and Mandolin Association), l’Orchestra Giovanile Europea di Chitarre e Mandolini (EGMYO), and he performed in three concerts in Ferrara, Vittorio Veneto (TV) and Pieve di Cento (BO).
In the same year he conducted the opera “Prometheus” by Carl Orff, at the Teatro Greco of Palazzolo Acreide (SR).
In 2008 he published two orginals compositions for orchestra a plettro, in the editor VOGT & FRITZ of Schweinfurt (Germania).
In 2008 he studied the Baroque Flaute, as autodidatct; at present he is entered at the Conservatory “C. Pollini” in Padova, in the class of Maestro Sergio Balestracci.
From 2009 to 2011 he was musical Conductor of the Accademia Corale “Vittore Veneziani” of Ferrara, with whom he dealt many scores of sacred kind and with orchestra: W. A. Mozart Requiem in Re minore KV 626, Gioacchino Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle, Orlando di Lasso Missa Bella Amfitrit Altera, Antonio Vivaldi Gloria in Re maggiore RV 589.
In March 2011 he partecipated to the tour in United States with the Orchestra of International Academy that recorded the CD: Mandolin Images in collaboration with the concert artist of mandolino: Carlo Aonzo.
Also in June 2011 he was in S.Pietroburgo to performance and to record the Magnificat e Gloria di Giuseppe Sarti (1729 – 1802), of which he took care the critic revision. This collaboration was with the Orchestra of Theatre Marinsky, Director Mattia Rondelli, solist Barbara Frittoli.
In July 2009/10 he conducted the first italian performance of the Musical “The kiss of the Spider Woman”, producted in the Theatre Comunale og Bologna.
He is teacher of the course "Tecniche di Strumentazione per Fiati" in the biennum of the Conservatory “G. Frescobaldi” in Ferrara.
